The rapid growth of electric cars has led many legacy automakers to jump on the bandwagon and launch new products, aiming to capitalize on the growing demand. One of the most recent additions to the electric market in the country is the British automotive marque MG's Comet EV. This quirky model has gained significant popularity, prompting the company to plan the launch of another unique EV called the MG Yep. The MG Yep is a micro-electric SUV currently available in the Chinese market under MG's sister brand Baojun. It is highly likely that MG will introduce the same EV SUV under its own brand name in India in the near future. Recently, an online video review of the Baojun Yep EV was shared, providing us with insights into what we can expect in India's future.

The video of the Baojun Yep micro-electric SUV was uploaded to the Telescope YouTube channel. The presenter begins the video by sharing their initial thoughts on the car and providing a brief introduction to the vehicle. They describe it as a pure electric micro SUV designed for city dwellers. The presenter proceeds to share the vehicle's dimensions, stating that it measures under 3.4 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2.1 meters. He also compares its height to his own, mentioning that it is approximately 1.7 meters tall, including the roof rail. The presenter then sheds light on the pricing, stating that the base model costs around $12,000-$13,000 (Rs 9.8-10.7 lakh), while the fully equipped top-spec model costs under $15,000 (Rs 12.3 lakh).

After the introduction, the reviewer describes the car's exterior, noting its cute, quirky, and practical appearance. They also mention that it comes with off-road features like all-terrain tires. The video then shows the SUV alongside normal hatchbacks and full-size SUVs for comparison. Moving to the rear of the car, the presenter highlights one of its unique features—an apple watch-like small screen that can display messages and pictures. They emphasize that the content on this screen is reviewed by the company to prevent misuse of this quirky feature.

The presenter, after showcasing this feature, mentions that despite the inclusion of this peculiar rear screen, the car lacks essential elements such as a rear wiper and washer. They then proceed to show the rear seats and the boot space, stating that although it is a four-seater, folding down the seats provides more room for luggage. Next, the presenter reveals the interior of the SUV, noting its appealing quality for the price. They mention the use of soft-touch materials throughout and the presence of modern amenities like dual touchscreen displays and automatic climate control.

Regarding the powertrain, the Baojun Yep is equipped with an electric motor located at the rear axle, producing 67 horsepower and 140 Nm of maximum torque. This setup enables the driver to reach a top speed of 100 km/h. The iron-phosphate battery allows for a driving range of approximately 303 kilometers on a single charge, as per the CLTC measurement cycle for urban conditions. It is highly likely that the specifications will remain the same for the Indian market.
